Gate Fold

A type of fold in which a double width page or pair of pages are turned inward from the fore edge.

Gathering
|
|
To place printed material in their correct order or sections to make up a book.

Ghosting
|
|
A faint image appearing on a printed sheet where it was not intended to print.

Grade
|
|
Term used to distinguish between printing papers. Grade can refer to the rating, finish or brand of paper.

Grain Direction
|
|
Also known as Paper Grain. A paper's grain is the direction in which most of the fibers lie. For example, an 8.5x11 sheet usually has a Grain Long direction, meaning that most of the fibers lie parallel to the 11" direction.

Grind
|
|
The 1/8 inch along the spine of a perfect bound book that is ground off before binding.
|

|
Gripper Edge
|
|
The (front) unprintable blank area of paper where the press grippers grasp the sheet.

Gusset
|
|
An expansion pleat scored and folded into a pocket to give it greater capacity when filled.

|
|
Gutter
|
|
The blank space or margin left unused in a layout, from printed area to trim.
