Fifth Color
Ink color added to a print job in addition to the four color process inks.
Finish
Post press operations including scoring, folding, trimming and binding.
Finishing
Post press operations like scoring, folding, trimming and binding.
Flood
To coat a sheet completely with an ink, varnish or aqueous coating.
Foil Emboss
To stamp or emboss an image with foil.
Foil Stamp
Method that releases foil from it's backing when stamped with a heated die.
Fold Marks
Markings on a printed sheet indicating where a fold is to occur.
Foldout
A folded sheet bound into a publication, often used for oversize images, maps or charts.
Folio
The actual page number in a publication.
Form Roller
Roller that comes into contact with the printing plate conveying ink or water.
Fountain
The container on a printing press that holds ink, water or varnish.
Fountain Solution
Mixture of chemicals and water that dampens a plate to prevent ink from sticking to the non-printing area.
Four-Color Process
Printing that uses Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black to produce full color images. Also called Full-Color or Process Printing.
FPO
For Position Only. A low-resolution (usually 72 dpi) image used only to indicate placement and size. This is meant to be replaced by a high-resolution image before printing.
